Pakis purba

PAKIS PURBA ABOUT PLANTS IN AGE Paleozoic Precisely at an altitude of about 3250 masl in a row Jayawijaya Mountains, there is one that is so exotic lakes. How not, the lake offers an abundance of charm beauty so amazed with radiant sparkle hue of colors that make each eye would have looked at him amazed. Call it Habema lake. Located not far from the town of Wamena with the distance of approximately 40 km or travel time for 2 hours using wheeled vehicles empat. It is unique and different from the other lakes. The lake is located between rows of Jayawijaya Mountains basin so that not infrequently variety of plants to animals that flapping wings to fly here here while chattering to one another is found here. There is one thing that is not common elsewhere found here call it ancient ferns or known by the Latin name Cyathea Atrox. According to some experts, ancient ferns allegedly lived at the time of the Silurian and Devonian periods. Silurian and Devonian periods occur in Paleozoic era approximately 438 million years ago, which in this era began to found the first man, flowering plants, mammals, dinosaurs and insects (Ahmad, 2011). Therefore, I wonder if this fern is unique compared to other types of relatives. Ancient fern has a unique ranging from large trunk unbranched stem diameter of approximately 20 cm, then looming straight up until it reaches a height of approximately 3 meters. Then the leaves layout is quite unique and only found a few fronds are located at the tip of the rod. The growth is not on the forest floor, climbing hills, crawling on the trunk and on the sidelines of the buildings that are not maintained, but at the edges of the river and among the grasses broad nan. They usually live in groups with one another. However, until now there has been a lot of research about the ecology of this ancient ferns so that the information is still limited. Lake Habema, ancient ferns limited distribution in certain areas such as marshes or at the edges of the river so that the population is very small and vulnerable to extinction, especially in Government Regulation No. 7 of 1999 this plant is not categorized as protected flora. Therefore, information on the ecology of ancient fern is very necessary to safeguard in maintaining its existence in nature.
